An attempted robbery at a home in Nightingale Avenue in Lenasia south of Johanneburg has left the owners distraught and reeling in shock.

Mohammed Navlakhi told Radio Islam, five armed well-dressed black males stormed into the yard of his home through the open gate at about 9:30am and rushed to the front door to get into the home.

Isaac Bonase, a worker who was cleaning the balcony at the home also witnessed the men run into the yard.

“I saw them rushing to the front door, took a step back and shoved the door closed before they could enter my house,” said Mohammed.

Mohammed said he screamed for his brother Nazeer to take is family and mother to the back of the home to a place of safety.

After shoving the door closed, the men fled the scene in a silver grey BMW 3 series and a red Toyota Yaris.

Its alleged that one of the workers at the home may be involved and  tipped off the armed men as he was seen talking to them earlier before they stormed the home.

The incident has been captured on CCTV footage.

Police were on the scene within minutes and are investigating.
