A 65-year-old respected Islamic scholar and former principal of Lenasia Muslim Association (LMA) madressa in Lenasia was robbed at his home in Robertsham, south of Johannesburg early Sunday morning.

Moulana Muhammad Nanabhay said 3 armed men entered his home through a window at 2:30am demanding cash and jewelry.

“They hurt my wife, they hurt my son quite badly hitting him with the butt of the gun fracturing his jaw.”

Moulana Nanabhay said the suspects fled the scene through a neighbours yard with jewelry, an undisclosed amount of cash and his gun.

“The police and paramedics were very efficient and were within minutes at the scene.”

“It was very a traumatic experience, may Allah save us one and all from this kind of torment,” said Moulana Nanabhay.

Police are investigating a case of armed robbery.
