Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2014-11-27

The Sandton Islamic Association (SIA), a member of the South African National Authority (SANHA) is embarking on open day on Saturday 29th November at Masjid Duha in Sandton, north of Johannesburg.

Mohammed Mahomedy the spokesperson for SIA said the unique and innovative programme has potential as a community building event and a Da’wah (propagation) opportunity.

“The entire idea around the open day is basically to create a platform for the Muslims and non-Muslims, newly reverted Muslims and the like to actually come to the masjid and have a space where they can discuss with Ulama (Muslim theologians), other recently reverts from other parts of the world, where they can come and get clarity and objective view of Islam and Muslims and what role we play in the South African and global context as well.”

Activities for the day include Islamic exhibitions, guided tours, traditional food, Q & A sessions, children’s activities and giveaways.

“The idea is to take them through a very quick perspective on deen (religion) on what is Islam. We’ve got Ulama to tell them the basic tenets of Islam and how and what Islam and Muslims is all about,” said Mahomedy.

The open day will run from 10am until 3pm.
