Emergency services have treated a man for minor injuries after the Hyundai Balloon at Johannesburg’s Monte Casino broke free and crashed earlier this afternoon.

Numerous people took to social media tweeting pictures of the incident.

The balloon was blown off course and crashed into a nearby tower during a routine safety check.

The metal basked fell a short distance to the ground and the balloon then floated away breaking up over Fourways.

Pieces of that balloon have been scattered over a number of houses.

Only the balloon operator was inside and no bystanders on the ground were injured.

Monte Casino said a statement will be released later this afternoon.
