A 65-year-old woman and the aunt of Moulana Mohammad Kara of Radio Islam was brutally assaulted at her home in Flamingo Street in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg on Friday morning.
It’s alleged that a domestic worker known as Christina who was employed two weeks ago was responsible for the merciless attack.
According to a neighbour, she smelt what seemed liked food burning in the elderly woman’s home and decided to investigate.
Upon entering the home with the assistance of the gardener, they found the elderly woman lying on the floor severely beaten up and bleeding from the mouth.
“The home was ransacked, but it was unclear if anything was taken,” said Moulana Kara.
The elderly woman was in severe shock and was taken to the Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital (Lenmed) in Lenasia where she is in a stable condition.
Police are investigating.
In recent weeks the crime rate in Lenasia has increased rapidly. On the 14th November, a 68-year-old woman was brutally murdered in Zinnia Street, Extenson 3. The elderly woman’s throat was slit.
