A woman was shot multiple times during a house robbery in Erasmia in Pretoria north of Johannesburg on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Captain Agnus Huma said neighbours alerted the police after they heard several gun shots.
The 52-year old woman was shot in the chest and died on the scene.
“Jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money was taken,” said Huma.
Police are investigating a case of murder and house robbery.
Meanwhile South Africa’s political parties have expressed sorrow at the killing of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.
The parties are calling on police and the community to help bring a stop to violent crime.
More than 17,000 people were murdered in South Africa between April 2013 and March 2014, an increase of about 800 over the previous year, according to police figures.
