Laudium Teacher Brutally Murdered

January 14, 2014

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2014-01-14

A 49 year old woman, Sangeeta Ramjee has been brutally murdered at her home in Mink Street in Laudium, Pretoria.

According to a source, her brother Raveen Ramjee hadn't heard from his sister since yesterday afternoon and thus visited her home this morning at 5am with the spare keys to investigate.

Raveen discovered Sangeeta’s battered body on the kitchen floor with evidence that a scuffle had ensued.

Police say there was no sign of forced entry into the house.

They confirmed evidence suggesting the victim had put up a fight and marks on her neck suggest she was strangled.

Sangeeta was a school teacher at the Andrew Anthony School in Laudium.

Her parents Jayanti and Bhagwati Ramjee who share the home with Sangeeta, left on an international trip to India yesterday (13 January) are now making their way back to South Africa after hearing about their daughter’s murder.

Family, neighbours and friends at the house say they'll need time to come to terms with the sad news of Sangeeta’s death.

“She was a very good school teacher, vibrant, an extremely helpful person and well liked in the community,” a neighbour told Radio Islam on the condition of anonymity.

It’s alleged the gardener may be responsible for the brutal murder.

Police say investigations are ongoing with no suspects having been identified.

Sangeeta is survived by her parents, siblings and two children.
