September 17, 2014

Radio Islam International in conjunction with Jamiatul Ulama North West, Al Huda Muslim School and the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda Municipality has donated over 250 food hampers totaling R100, 000 to selected residents of the local community of Klerksdorp on Wednesday.

The initiative comes after an earthquake that hit the region on the 05 August at 12:22pm.

The earthquake lasted only a few seconds but destroyed many homes leaving residents displaced, without food and basic necessities.

“We are very grateful to what Radio Islam has done at Al Huda School in partnership with the school governing body by donating food hampers,” said Pinkie Moloi, the district mayor for the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda Municipality.

“This initiative should not only be for the people of Matlosana in particular but it should actually go beyond the borders of our province and I know you have been doing a good job even internationally.”

Mufti Farouk Minty from Al Huda Muslim School also thanked Radio Islam for the generous donation that made the distribution of the food hampers possible.

“We are indeed very fortunate this day that Allah chose our school, our community of Klerksdorp and partnering with Radio Islam to be able to bring food to those affected by the earthquake.”

Residents were very appreciative and ecstatic after receiving their hampers.

“I feel very much happy and I feel relieved because the earthquake made us poor and now we have food so the children can eat at home,” said Collin Moncho, one of the recipients of the food hamper.

This is the second distribution of food hampers to the community, the first being just ten days after the earthquake struck.
