The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has confirmed that a 4.6 magnitude tremor hit parts of South Africa with the epicentre being 12km west of Orange Farm.
The tremor shook parts of the country at around 1:15 am.
“Earlier today we recorded a 4.6 magnitude earthquake 12 km west off Orange Farm, we consider it a shallow event,” said Dale Grant from The USGS’
The quake is the second in South Africa in less than three weeks.
On 5 August, a 31-year-old man was killed in a mining village near Orkney, North West when the 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck the region.
At least 34 miners were injured by the earthquake, and more than 600 houses were damaged.
