Two men who were taken in for questioning for the murder of 2 elderly Muslim sisters in Lenasia south of Johannesburg have been released due to a lack of evidence.
70 year old Hawa Bibi and 74 year old Zuleikha Ghora who was also bedridden and in a wheelchair were found dead at their home around 10am yesterday morning (18 September).
The elderly sisters were savagely murdered. Hawa Bibi was found lying on her side in the sitting room with her throat slit and Zuleikha on the bed in her bedroom with a stab wound to the head.
It’s not clear when the pair were killed. However neighbours say they saw them alive on Monday afternoon.
The police's Kay Makhubela said the community has been helping with the investigation. “The people who have information are coming in so that they can assist us with the investigation.”
Meanwhile Shahiem Ismail from Lethal Forces who were first on the scene of the crime yesterday said what actually transpired yesterday is very horrific; it has shocked a lot of people.
“Two of our mothers that’s has been brutally, brutally murdered, now that is something that is seen as very common in Lenasia and its getting out of hand at the present moment.” Ismail said.
“We can't carry on with this…Today it is this ladies, tomorrow it could by anybody else. We need to definitely stand together and it’s something that we don’t condone to,” reiterated Ismail. “The SAPS aren’t coming to the party and that’s why criminals are taking advantage in Lenasia.”
