An 85 year old man has been mercilessly strangled to death in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

Ebrahim Haffejee better known as Muruti who lived alone was asleep when suspects gained entry to his home in Agapanthus Street, Extension 2 in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to Lenasia police’s Captain Hector Netshivodza the suspects gained entry through the broken kitchen window and burglar guards.

The elderly pensioner’s body was discovered by a neighbour who lives opposite after being alerted by the screams of the domestic.

His son Sulaiman said the house had been ransacked.

“We have opened an inquest docket. No one has been arrested and the suspects are still at large,” said Netshivodza.

Netshivodza has appealed to anyone with information to contact the Lenasia Police Station.
