Lenasia Resident ‘Haas’ Saloojee Killed in Alleged Revenge Attack

December 22, 2012

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2012-12-22

Lenasia resident Shiraz 'Haas' Saloojee was fatally shot in what seemed like a revenge attack outside his late sisters home in Lenasia extension 11B on Friday 21st December 2012 at about 6pm.

A source who declined to divulge his name said an allegedly drunken Allister Ramdin, the son of a man who Saloojee shot 18 years ago in an attack to avenge his father death, kicked open the door of the home and fired several shots at Saloojee and then turned the gun on himself. Saloojee was rushed to Lenmed Clinic in Lenasia where he passed away.

The source further stated that Saloojee was released on Friday morning (21st December) at 10am after spending 18 years behind bars for murder. He performed his Jumu’ah salaah (Friday prayers) at the Saaberie Masjid in Lenasia and received a warm welcome from family and friends. Saloojee was supposed to have had supper with his family and friends before he was fatally shot.

The shooting of Saloojee is not an isolated incident and is also linked to the murder of Dawood Motala 18 years ago, who was gunned down by Ramdin’s father.

The family of ‘Haas’ were angry and saddened by his death.
