At least 53 suspects are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court following a shootout at the newly opened Mall of Africa in Midrand.
A bystander including two men believed to be involved in the incident were wounded in the shooting yesterday, which is believed to be linked to a taxi dispute over routes.
The police’s Tsekiso Mofokeng says the men have been charged with public violence, attempted murder and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“Suspects were arrested by police patrolling the area on Wednesday. The shooting seems to be taxi violence related but police are still investigating the motive.”
Authorities continue to monitor the roads around the shopping centre.
