As COVID-19 cases hits records levels across the country and with Gauteng becoming the epicentre of the pandemic, health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku has clarified that the province is not digging over a million graves.

Masuku says they are preparing sites which is a standard response to the Coronavirus.

The MEC made the comments after he announced that Gauteng was preparing over 1.5 million grave sites in response to the surge in infections.

Masuku says the COVID-19 modelling predicts that there will be more then one thousand deaths across Gauteng.

The Health Department  on Wednesday said Gauteng had become the epicentre of the pandemic in South Africa, with it accounting for over 81,000 of the country’s 238,000 infections.
