The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 52,991.
This is an increase of 2,112 from Monday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 82 bringing the total to 1,162
The Western Cape has the most infections with 34,819, followed by Eastern Cape at 6,760, Gauteng at 6,546, KwaZulu-Natal 3,255, Free State 391, North West 604, Mpumalanga 184, Limpopo 253, Northern Cape 122 and unallocated infections 57.
The total number of recoveries to date is 29,006, this translates to a recovery rate of 54.8%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 968,070, this is an increase of 25,012 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 82 COVID-19 related deaths: 61 from Western Cape, 11 from the Eastern Cape, and 10 from Gauteng Province. This brings the total national deaths to 1162 with a mortality rate of 2,2%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
