3 Injured, 500 Evacuated in Makkah Hotel Blaze

July 12, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-07-12

Three people were injured and 500 others evacuated after a fire broke out on the second floor of the Hilton Hotel in Makkah in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

The Saudi Gazette reports the Civil Defense forces rushed to hotel and evacuated about 500 people including pilgrims, workers, and customers of shops from the floor soon after receiving information about the fire.

The injured include three members of the civil defence and public security.

Colonel Saeed Sarhan, spokesman of the Civil Defence says an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire.

This is the third fire in Makkah in two weeks.

On Wednesday, four workers were charred to death and three others injured in a fire that broke out in a 3500-square-meter upholstery and sofa sets workshop in Sharayea Al-Mujahideen in Makkah.

On the 3rd of July in the Masaa (the area between the hillocks of Safaa and Marwa where pilgrims travel seven times) a forklift caught fire as a result of a short-circuit.

No one was injured by the blaze.
