Three suspects have been arrested and two wounded after a shootout with police during a house robbery in Dharwar Street Extension 11 in Lenasia, South of Johannesburg.

A sixth suspect is on the run.

The police’s Kay Makhubela said they received a tip off at about 3am of a house robbery in progress.

“We found the suspects in the house and tried to approach them but they started shooting at the police who returned fire wounding two suspects.”

“Three were arrested and we are still searching for one who we believe might still be in the area,” said Makhubela.

Makhubela said police recovered a licensed firearm at the scene.

All other items taken from the robbery including cash have also been recovered.

“The suspects will appear in the Protea Magistrates court on charges of house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of stolen property and cash,” Makhubela said.
