13 New Ministers After Egypt Cabinet Reshuffle

August 16, 2022

By Abu Muhammad

This is Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s third cabinet reshuffle since he came into power in 2018.

The changes that have been implemented show that the focus is on reviving the Egyptian economy that has been devastated by Covid.

The Ukraine-Russia war has affected Egypt’s food prices as it imports 90% of its wheat from Ukraine, and it has created an energy crisis in Egypt.

Egypt’s population of 106 million and creating economic opportunities for such a vast population have been challenging.

The reshuffle replaced the heads of the ministries of public enterprises, water resources and irrigation, trade and industry, and tourism, among others.

Key portfolios remained unchanged, including finance, foreign affairs, and supply.

The government has recently held talks with the International Monetary Fund for a new loan to support its reform programme, and these changes have been implemented to appease the IMF.

The president said in a Facebook post that the changes aimed at “developing the governmental performance in some important files … which contribute to protecting the state’s interests and capabilities.”

The new ministers are now expected to be sworn in after parliamentary approval.
